“Brera was my dojo, my training place. It’s the place where an entire generation of artists and I were taught,” says Patrick Tuttofuoco, who in Brera set the foundations for his career. Since his graduation at the Brera Fine Arts Academy in 1999, Tuttofuoco reached several achievements: from personal exhibitions in Italy and abroad to the participation at the Venice Biennale (2003), Manifesta (2004) and the Folkestone Triennal (2008). Today, the artist returns to his origins, with a work that is strictly connected to the topic “Project Form(s) Identity”.
With the upcoming edition of the Brera Design District, Patrick Tuttofuoco presents “...Mom, Dad”, a new public art project curated by Nicola Ricciardi, with which the artist goes back to focus on the public dimension of work. The project will be placed in Piazzetta Brera on April 11th and will be on view until April 23rd. “... Mom, Dad” comes from the desire to analyze and articulate the last fifteen years artistic career by Tuttofuoco, through a sculptural gesture that encloses the main dimensions of his practice—from investigating the human face, to the study of classical statuary, to design culture. The new sculpture consists of two elements that reproduce the faces of Alexander the Great and Nefertiti, enlarged and printed on a steel frame that makes them concave. As a whole, “... Mom, Dad” looks like the photograph of a putative family, composed not only by the printed images, but also by the structure that supports them and which alludes to the design culture of which the artist is at the same time son and interpreter. In the backdrop to this “family portrait” stands the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, which has supported and sponsored the project together with Brera Design District.
