Rong is a 5 years exhibition. Each year focus on one traditional material. The material of 2015 is “Mud”.
Rong in Chinese means melting and fusion, and that is the core of the philosophy. 16 designers from different design fields (product, furniture, fashion, jewelry, textile, porcelain, photography and graphic design) deconstruct the traditional craft of Hangzhou and apply them in contemporary design.
The final product are focused on 5 Chinese traditional materials (bamboo, silk, mud, copper and paper) , and exhibited around the World from 2013 to 2017.The material of 2015 is mud.
Mud in Chinese has a lot of meanings. It is porcelain, brick, roof tile, sand, soil, clay, stone, mineral pigments, mud houses, incense, lacker, even Chinese food tofu or rice cakes.
16 designers will enter into a soul of “mud” trough their work, closely connecting traditional craft and contemporary design.
